HIV and PRIDE: What The Community Is Saying

And how are national LGBT organizations celebrating and commemorating it all

HIV and PRIDE: How the community should remember and celebrate the early days.

HIV and AIDS has caused more than 700,000 deaths in the United States since 1981. For context, today, around 600,000 deaths in the U.S. for coronavirus since early last year.

It’s fitting to begin Pride celebrations this year reflecting on the HIV and AIDS epidemic to learn lessons from our past, to gain wisdom from HIV Long-Term Survivors, to celebrate the lives and memories we all share from people who have been lost, and to continue to push officials, government departments, and companies to strive for more than a functional cure to HIV and AIDS–we want a cure and a vaccine.

National LGBT organizations have produced some amazing resources for the community surrounding HIV and AIDS. Although some of this information is dated, the content is certainly worth the look and read.

Additionally, we must continue, as advocates and allies, to push National HIV and LGBT organizations to continue to spread the message that HIV is not transmitted to a sexual partner if the positive individual has reached an undetectable viral load–rendering them  not capable of transmitting the virus. As well as making sure to push them to continue their oversight to the HIV-related pharmaceutical industry and to keep a clear head for defending the community’s interest ahead of sponsorship sales, financial grants from pharma companies, and private high dollar donors.

PRIDE Social Media and HEALTH Campaigns
